February 5

Good afternoon. This is Ms. Duong from Grover Cleveland Charter High School with an important message for parents and guardians. The safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain our top priority. I am calling to remind you of safe practices to follow during the inclement weather.

Flooding is a threat to life and property that can occur any time of year.  Conditions that cause floods include heavy storms or steady rain for several hours or days that saturate the ground.  However, flash floods occur suddenly due to rapidly rising water along a stream or low-lying area.

A mere 6 inches of fast-moving floodwater can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away a small car, while 2 feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles.  It is NEVER safe to drive or walk into floodwaters. As such, please

  • Allow extra time to get to school during wet weather.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and changing weather conditions. Know where you can go to get out of the rain if necessary.
  • Walk in a group for safety.
  • STAY AWAY FROM FLOOD CONTROL CHANNELS. Flood channels are also very slippery and steep, making it hard to get out.
  • NEVER ATTEMPT to cross flooded areas and never enter moving water.
  • Be aware that debris may also be floating in flooded waters and can be very dangerous.

School is one of the safest places to be during an emergency.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school at 818-885-2300. Thank you and have a nice day.

Buenas tardes.

January 14

This is Ms. Duong from Grover Cleveland Charter High School with your updates for the week of January 15.

No School: There is no school this Monday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday.

Early Dismissal Tuesdays: Every Tuesday, we will be on a professional development (PD) early dismissal schedule. On Tuesdays, period 1 begins at 8:30 AM and period 6 ends at 2:38 PM. There will be no late buses on Tuesdays.

Spring Schedule Changes: The last date to request to see counselors for a class schedule change is January 26.  Permanent program day is February 2 – after this date, students may not drop a class without incurring a fail in that course.

Spring Credit Recovery: Students who need to make up a course should see their counselors ASAP to sign up for one of our credit recovery options.

Academic Support: Academic support and tutoring are available after school. See your counselor for details.

Food Deliveries: This is a reminder that the security and office staff will not accept any food deliveries or food drop-offs for students during school hours. No-cost nutrition snacks and lunch options are available from our cafeteria.

January 7

This is Ms. Duong from Grover Cleveland Charter High School with your updates for the first week of spring semester. Welcome back, Cavaliers. We hope you had a restful, relaxing break and we look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow morning.

First Day of Instruction: Spring 2024 classes begin this Monday, January 8. We will be on a regular day schedule. Zero period classes will meet. Period 1 begins at 8:30 AM and period 6 ends at 3:38 PM.

Student class schedules are available on the school website. Students should report to their spring semester period 1 class to pick up a hard copy of their program. If a student misses period 1, schedules will be available in the Counseling Office.

On the first day of classes, counselors will only see students with "See Counselor" on their schedule or if students are enrolled in a class they have already completed. Counselors will not be available for "walk-ins" on Monday. Instead, students may pick up a Schedule Adjustment form/Request to See Counselor form starting January 9 from the Counseling Office. Forms are due no later than January 26.

Early Dismissal Tuesdays: Every Tuesday, we will be on a professional development (PD) early dismissal schedule. On Tuesdays, period 1 begins at 8:30 AM and period 6 ends at 2:38 PM. There will be no late buses on Tuesdays.

Cleveland Governance Council Meeting: There will be a CGC meeting on Tuesday at 3:45 PM in the Principal’s Conference Room.
