Library Practice Students
Library Practice students help to organize the library, learn valuable research and web 2.0 skills, and assist students
and staff. Please see Ms. Broger-Mackey if you are interested in enrolling in this course.
Volunteer positions during nutrition and lunch are also available.
Admittance
During class time, students are admitted with an official library pass signed
by their teacher. There is a limit of four students on passes per teacher per
period. Students do not need a pass to visit the library during their free time.
Class Visits
Teachers should sign up for the library at least 1 week in advance, because
the library is very much in demand. The Teacher Librarian is available for
collaborative lesson planning. Teachers are responsible for arriving with and
staying with their classes.
Print Materials
The library contains over 24,000 books and reference materials, which
support the curriculum, special interests, and reading for pleasure. There is
also a collection of books in languages other than English. We have an exemplary
selection of materials on artists and art processes.
Electronic Materials
The library has twenty-six computers that are connected to the Internet. LAUSD's
Digital Library provides students access to up-to-date online reference materials.
We instruct patrons on how to use this invaluable resource, which contains hundreds
of curriculum-related databases.
Playaways
Try a Playaway, one of our newest audiobooks! They're a great to listen to your favorite book, and they look cool too : ) Click here for a list of our current titles.
Graphic Novels
Our most wildly popular acquisitions are our graphic novels. We will
continue expanding this section due to the overwhelming response it has received.
If you don't know what a graphic novel is, come to the library and find out
what everyone is reading.
Children's Reading Room
Our Children's Room has been specifically designed for reading activities with
young children. It features a fine selection of Pre-K books, young adult books
on all aspects of parenting teens, and lesson planning for the early grades.
The collection is intended for and used by pregnant and parenting teens, and
to encourage teens, their parents, and staff to read to young children. Drama,
ESL, English, and art classes have also used it. We encourage staff members
with young children to take advantage of this unique facility.
Staff Book Exchange
