Every School Safe Presentations for Students: The next ESS presentation will be period-by-period on October 15 in the PAC. We will go through English and other select classes for this session. The topic is Suicide Prevention and Awareness. 

PSAT Digital Readiness Check: We will be conducting the Digital Readiness test on Wednesday during an extended homeroom (period 2) for grades 9-11. All students taking the PSAT should bring their school-issued Chromebooks for this digital readiness check.

Tuesday Professional Development Schedule: Every Tuesday, we will be on a professional development (PD) early dismissal schedule. On Tuesdays, period 1 begins at 8:30 AM and period 6 ends at 2:38 PM. 

Great California Shakeout: On Thursday, October 17, we will be conducting the annual SHAKE Earthquake Evacuation and Search and Rescue Drill from 11 AM to 11:30 AM. This will be during period 3. Please plan accordingly as any visitor on campus will be directed to participate in the event.

Looking ahead –

PSAT Day and Workshops: We will offer the PSAT for no cost to all ninth (PSAT 8/9), 10th, and 11th grade students on October 23. Seniors will participate in select workshops on that day.

Minimum Day: On October 23, we will be on a minimum day schedule for parent conferencing. School will dismiss at 1:13 PM for students.  

 

PHBAO Parent Conferencing: As a PHBAO school, we conduct two set aside parent conferences, one in fall and one in spring. The fall semester PHBAO conference is Wednesday, October 23 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Parents may request meetings with staff in-person, via Schoology, or on Zoom.

Cookies with the Counselors: Looking ahead, Cookies with the Counselors will be on October 24 in The LANDing Ground (L-109). Due to popular demand, we will continue with our mindfulness and wellness series.

Attendance Matters: Great job, Cavaliers. In comparing attendance at this time last year to our current rate, we have seen a 14% drop in chronic absenteeism. Let’s keep up the effort to be at school every day, on time. 

Tuesday Professional Development Schedule: Every Tuesday, we will be on a professional development (PD) early dismissal schedule. On Tuesdays, period 1 begins at 8:30 AM and period 6 ends at 2:38 PM. 

CGC Meeting: Our next Cleveland Governance Council meeting will be Tuesday at 3:45 PM in the Principal’s Conference Room.

PSAT Day and Workshops: We will offer the PSAT for no cost to all ninth (PSAT 8/9), 10th, and 11th grade students on October 23. Class of 2026 and Class of 2027 students looking to opt out must submit the Opt-Out form by October 9. Seniors will participate in select workshops on that day. Coffee with Admin: Join us for Coffee with the Administrators this Thursday at 10 AM where we will go over the next Every School Safe Presentation on Suicide Prevention, look at updated school data, provide a recap from the Title I Annual Meeting, and go over LCAP.

Fire Drill: We will be conducting our monthly fire/evacuation drill on Monday near the end of period 2.

TIES Day: Wednesday is our next Targeted Intervention and Enrichment Support (TIES) Day. Teachers will offer students subject-specific targeted intervention and enrichment support on this day each class period. 

Minimum Day: On Wednesday, we will be on a minimum day schedule. Period 6 will end at 1:13 PM. Please plan accordingly.

No School: This is a reminder that there is no school this Thursday. School will resume on Friday.

Club Rush: Cleveland offers a number of student clubs and organizations. Come out to the Plaza Tuesday and Wednesday at lunch to learn about the various opportunities to build friendships and community at The Land.  

SSC Meeting: Tuesday is our first SSC meeting of the year. The meeting will be at 3:45 PM in the Principal's Conference Room.

SSC Self-Nominations: If you are interested in being a parent member of the School Site Council, please complete the self-nomination form. Elections will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 3:45 PM.

Tardy Sweeps: Students, make sure to arrive to class on time every day. Tardy sweeps begin this week. Review the attendance policy for details.

Ninth grade students will attend through their PE classes and 10th-12th grade students will go with their Science classes. Seniors not taking science will go attend through select electives. As a reminder, no food or drink except water is allowed in the PAC.

Grade-Level Assemblies: The Senior Assembly is Wednesday. Students will receive a summons to attend.

Back-to-School Night: Join us this Wednesday for Back-to-School Night.  Select parent meetings begin at 5 PM and classroom visits start at 5:30 PM. Counselors will be leading a workshop during their Meet and Greet at 5 PM in the Performing Arts Center. Additionally, the Title I Annual Meeting will be held at 5 PM in D-6.

This is Ms. Duong, principal of Grover Cleveland Charter High School, welcoming our Cavaliers to The Land for the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

First Day of School: The first day of fall semester instruction begins this Monday, August 12. Select students who opted to take zero period start classes at 7:26 AM. All other students will begin school with period 1 at 8:30 AM. Student schedules are posted on Schoology and on the school website. We encourage students to write down or print out their schedules, if possible. We will also have schedules posted at tables throughout campus on Day 1. Magnet students without a period 1 class, with a “hole” in their schedule, or those who need assistance should go to the indoor Dining Hall for help. Textbook Distribution: Textbook distribution will begin Tuesday through select classes. Teachers have the schedule and will be assisting students with getting all their instructional materials.

Student Handbook: The 2024-25 LAUSD Parent/Student Handbook is a great resource that outlines the policies and procedures that guide student life across the District. The Parent/Student Handbook is electronically available and can be downloaded from the Division School of Operations Website: https://www.lausd.org/Page/17131. Physical copies of the 2024-25 Parent/Student Handbook will be delivered to school sites in the next few weeks to be distributed to families. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the Parent/Student Handbook.

 

School Meals and Food Deliveries: All students eat free. We serve a light snack at nutrition and offer lunchtime meal options. Parents and guardians, please do not drop off lunch for students or ask that students come to the offices or front of school to pick up food. In accordance with federal, state, local and school board safety and nutritional standards and policies, the District will prohibit food and beverage deliveries - of any kind - to students during school hours. This policy will ensure our school communities continue to remain safe learning environments by reducing the number of unauthorized visitors in and around school perimeters and students having to leave campus to pick up outside food or beverages. Additionally, this policy limits the number of unknown allergens incidents. We encourage you to utilize the school's cafeteria services or provide your child with a packed lunch. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

 

Stay Hydrated: It will be Valley hot this week. We have water filling stations throughout campus so students are welcome to bring water bottles and replenish them, as needed.
