I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, where it was just as likely to find an alligator in a pool than to tan on the famed white sand beaches the city is known for. After graduation, I attended the University of Florida in Gainesville — Go Gators! At UF I received my Bachelor’s in History, Master in Secondary Education, and Master of Science in Management. While in college, I married my high school sweetheart, Jessica, also a UF alum. After graduation, we moved to Los Angeles and pursued jobs in our respective fields.
My first teaching position was at James Monroe High School, where I taught tenth through twelfth graders for six years. After finding a passion for math instruction and gaining a math credential later in my career, I went to work at the Virtual Program (now iGranada) at Granada Hills Charter High School as an Academic Advisor and then at the Social Justice Humanities Academy in San Fernando before returning to the Humanities Magnet at Cleveland High School. Here at Cleveland I helped establish the online program at Cleveland.
And now for some fun facts. I have taught Social Studies, Math, English, Physics and Chemistry over the course of my career. I always root for my Gators – in all kinds of weather! I love spending time with my daughter and son – future Gators in training. I pick up new and interesting — often obscure — information everywhere, and try to put it to good use by finding ways to connect it meaningfully for my friends, family, and students.
I'm thrilled to be part of such a spectacular team of educators and work with such fantastic students!
