I remember growing with several different cartoons that I always looked forward to watch. Time to travel back in time to see some of the television shows back in the 1990's.

Rugrats (Seasons 1-12)

Rugrats is an Emmy- award winning American animated television series that ran on Nickelodeon for over 12 seasons starting in 1991, and was one of the first three Nicktoons.

The show revolves around five toddlers, Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, Angelica Pickles and the twins Phillip (Phil) and Lillian (Lil) Deville, and their misadventures through the fantasy and illusion of infancy as portrayed by the show. The show later introduced Susie Carmichael. It was the network's second Nicktoon. The series was in production from 1991 to 1994, and again from 1996 to 2004. It aired in Nickelodeon's Snick block from 1997-2000 and it also aired on Nick Jr's block. It is the longest lasting Nicktoon to date at thirteen years of longevity. Rugrats received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 28, 2001. The series lasted a number of 172 episodes.

Comments: One of the many classics that I watched in my childhood. I always watch this show whenever it was on whenever I can. I remember also seeing the several movies they produced for this show in theaters. Such a fun and innocent show I remember.

Pokemon (Seasons 1-3)

The Pokémon anime series and films are a meta-series of adventures separate from the canon that most of the Pokémon video games follow (with the exception of Pokémon Yellow, a game based on the anime storyline). The anime follows the quest of the main character, Ash Ketchum (known as Satoshi in Japan) a Pokémon Master in training, as he and a small group of friends travel around the fictitious world of Pokémon along with their Pokémon partners.

The original series, titled Pocket Monsters, or simply Pokémon in western countries (often referred to as Pokémon: Gotta Catch 'Em All to distinguish it from the later series), begins with Ash's first day as a Pokémon trainer. His first (and signature) Pokémon is a Pikachu, differing from the games, where only Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle could be chosen. The series follows the storyline of the original games, Pokémon Red and Blue, in the region of Kanto. Accompanying Ash on his journeys are Brock, the Pewter City Gym Leader, and Misty, the youngest of the Gym Leader sisters from Cerulean City.

Pokémon: Adventures in the Orange Islands follows Ash's adventures in the Orange Islands, a place unique to the anime, and replaces Brock with Tracey Sketchit, an artist and "Pokémon watcher". The next series, based on the second generation of games, include Pokémon: Johto Journeys, Pokémon: Johto League Champions, and Pokémon: Master Quest, following the original trio of Ash, Brock, and Misty in the western Johto region.

The English adaptation of the series was produced by 4Kids Entertainment and video distribution of the series was handled by Viz Media for the TV series for the younger generation as well as the eighth movie forward, Warner Bros. and Nintendo for the first three movies and the first special, Miramax Films, and Buena Vista Home Entertainment for the fourth movie through the seventh. The series and all feature films are directed by Kunihiko Yuyama, with English adaptations originally written by Norman J. Grossfield and Michael Haigney for the first eight seasons. In the original series, the show is more comical and whimsical (light and airy). It uses "goofy" humor (or "cute" humor when it comes to Pikachu, who does wacky things in between important scenes).

Comments: The most overrated show there is nowadays. The original series (season 1) was the only part of the series of the show I absolutely loved. After the first season, the show basically went downhill. Although, the show doesn't have it's original spark, it still keeps kids and myself entertained when bored. The first season was absolutely the best with it's many different shows and it's cliffhangers. If I could go back in time and record any show, this would be the one.

Doug

Created by former Nickelodeon artist Jim Jinkins in 1990 and produced through Jinkins' production company, Jumbo Pictures Inc., Doug follows the life of an average kid named Doug Funnie.

In 1991, the Nickelodeon episodes began airing and we find 11 1/2 year-old Douglas Yancey Funnie and his family (Phil, Theda and sister Judy), having just moved from their former residence in Bloatsburg, to the new town of Bluffington. There he meets Skeeter, Patti, Roger and Beebe, and his new life in a new town begins! Doug writes in his journal and sometimes even imagines himself as a superhero named Quailman to help him out with situations and decisions.

In 1994 after 52 episodes, Doug was cancelled by Nickelodeon.

In February 1996, Disney Enterprises bought Jumbo Pictures, Inc. and ordered new episodes of "Doug" to be produced (re-named "Brand Spanking New! Doug" and then later "Disney's Doug"). These new episodes brought a new baby sister for Doug as well as a change in age to 12 1/2 years old. It also brought a new haircut for Patti, more money for Roger and much more including a change of clothes for everyone (not to mention a brand new middle school). These episodes aired on ABC's ONE SATURDAY MORNING cartoon block from September 1996 to September 9, 2000. In 1999, after 3 season and 65 additional episodes (and a feature-length movie), "Disney's Doug" went out of production. Doug spawned merchandise such as clothes, toys and a number of books. During the course of the show, Doug was nominated for 4 Daytime Emmy Awards. Reruns previously aired on Toon Disney and NickToons TV.

Episodes: 166 Episodes (68 half-hour episodes, 98 fifteen minute episodes) and 1 full-length movie.

Comments: A relatively interesting show. The first cartoon sitcom that I enjoyed in my freetime. The show was funny and entertaining. Although the show was a little bit realistic for a child, reflecting as a young adult, the show had many different layers to it. First off, to a child, the show is funny and entertaining. To a young adult, the show is bit more intellectual. Still, the show is fun to watch.

Rocko's Modern Life

Rocko's Modern Life is the story of a wallaby, born and raised in the sunburned land Down Under, Australia. A few years ago, he left the comfort of his native continent and came to live in the United States (because of a bully named Dingo). Since then, he's managed to pick up an assortment of oddball, but well-meaning, friends including a gluttonous Heffer Wolfe (actually a Steer who was adopted by a family of wolves), a faithful pet pooch named Spunky, and a paranoid hypochondriac turtle named Filbert with a personal philosophy. "Turn the page, wash your hands, turn the page, wash your hands."

Other characters that frequently appeared on the show are The Bigheads (Rocko's irritable next-door neighbors), Dr. Paula Hutchison (an always smiling doctor-of-all-trades and love interest of Filbert), and two slippery characters known as The Chameleon Brothers (Chame and Leon). These folks live in a bizarre district known as O-Town, which is actually under the industrial monopoly of a huge corporation called Conglom-O (their slogan is 'We Own You'). Stephen Hillenberg still found success after Rocko, when he created SpongeBob SquarePants in 1999.

Most of the episodes revolve around Rocko trying to cope with the absurdities and difficulties in modern life and living in a place like O-Town, you can bet there are plenty of those! The main characters are Rocko: A very "modern" wallaby from Australia who wears a blue shirt with purple triangles and his best friend is Heffer, a very friendly yellow steer who has green spiked hair and wears blue suspenders with red pants who loves to eat.and his pet dog is named Spunky. Other characters include Filburt, a brainiac turtle with funky glasses and green pants, Ed Bighead, Rocko's neighbor and married to Bev Bighead who works at the Conglom-O which rules the town and Bev Bighead, a orange hair, green lips, green skinned, just like her husband, Ed who wears pearls and a blue and pink shirt.

Comments: This is one of those funny comedy cartoons that I loved to watch. Although the show did get a little boring during the reruns, it was still funny to a certain extent. I always watch this show when I had nothing else to do. This show did teach me one thing, be good to your neighbors no matter how mean they are.

Final Comments: I still think the shows back in my childhood are so much better than the new generation. They were funny and knew how to capture the audience into the moment. I still wish I recorded those shows on tape when I had the chance.
