The 1910's were filled with all types of arts, from music to film.  In this century music became very popular.  This century is also the time when the film industry shifted from New York to Hollywood.  Cubism a new style of painting became the style of the century.  This decade was filled with all new types of arts.

 

          This century's music became popular at the time.  At this time many places had dance floors because people like to dance.  New York City companies paid musicians to create songs; one of the best was George M. Cahan, who wrote about the war.  In 1917 the first jazz band to make a recording is Dixieland jass band.  Jazz was a new music that came from blues and ragtime.  Most of the people playing jazz, blues or ragtime were African Americans.  Through this time a new musical entertainment could be found in theaters and in Broadway.  The musical was composed of songs and dance numbers.

 

        In the 1910's the film industry's moved from New York to Hollywood because of the better outdoor filming weather.  Through this time many successful movies came out one them is the "Birth of a Nation" which was directed by D.W Griffith.  This move showed the KKK as god people and that they were doing the right thing.  The movie director D.W Griffith was one of the first to be considered a great director.  Other director did comedies and other types of movies, many starring Charlie Chaplin.  The 1910's also brought the stars, before this movie actors were seen as normal people but then they were treated special because of what they did.

 

       In the 1910's cubism was the new type of art style.  Cubism displayed an image in many angles.  Marcel Duchamp was the most famous cubism artist at the time.  This new style got the attention of many critics.  Nude Descending a staircase was one of Duchamps was of his most successful art works.

 

       This decade was a time where people loved to dance and listen to jazz.  Hollywood took over filming and Chaplin became known for his comedies.  A time when Duchamp's painting became famous this was the 1910's
