A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court is a novel written by Mark Twain that uses the time travel devise to tell the story. The main theme is that people will believe anything with out a decent explanation or evidence. The theme is supported by the following example when hank blew up Merlin's tower with the gun powder and the electric rod. Another example would be when on the day of his execution he supposedly predicted a solar eclipse making the crowed believe that he had supernatural powers. The story uses the device of time travel because that's how the story is told. The novel tells us how hank the main character is sent back in time to the middle ages because of a hit he took to the head by a fellow named Hercules with a crowbar. After the hit he went back into the 6 th century not recognizing anything and was told he was in Camelot. Another theme used in the story was use of anachronisms. The usage of modern technological items in the story made advantages for Hank. The theme is described with the following example "clandestinely we made a few bushels of first-rate blasting powder, and I superintended my armorers while The novel is set in the middle ages until the end of the story when Hank returns back to the 19 th century. The whole story is filled with characters that posses unique skills, such as Merlin who is described as " the almighty liar and magician" by Hank because of the way Merlin would exaggerate when telling stories but later on in the novel Merlin reveals to have supernatural powers which is how Hank goes back home. A setting from the novel is King Arthur's court, the place is described as having great tapestries hanging from walls and the floors being cracked. This novel has many characters but just a few were important to the novel. Hank Morgan which was the main character of the novel, he first appeared when he was found by a stranger and was told that he was in Camelot. Hercules is not that much of an important character to the story but with out him Hank wouldn't had gone back in time making the setting happen. The novel began with Twain taking a trip to England where he finds the main character of the story which is referred as the "stranger". Hank tells Mark his story about going back in time. After a while Hank gets sleepy and gives Twain his manuscript which tells about his adventures. The manuscript began with Hank being taken prisoner by knight Sir Kay. Then he tells how he blew up Merlin's tower, and tells Twain how Hank got back into the 19 th century with the help of Merlin's sorcery. Twain uses a clear structure in this novel because it was easy to read and understand. The novel had a clear diction because it was understandable, the only thing that made it difficult to understand was that it had more than one narrator for the novel. The tone of this novel can be described as a relaxed tone. The novel ends with Hank dieing and Twain finishing the script.
