The art in the 1970's was very interesting. It had great artist like Walter De Maria and Robert Smithson. They both have a style in common which is land art. It also had great music by artist like The Doors, Led Zeppelin, John Lennon and Pink Floyd.

Walter De Maria was born in Oct 1, 1935 in Albany, California. He has three styles of art, which are Minimal Art, Conceptual Art and Land art. He is mostly known for "The Lightning Field", "Seen/Unseen Known/ Unknown" and "Walls in the Desert" . In 1957 he graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. He earned his M.F.A. in painting two years later. He also wrote essays on art, which were published in 1963 in "Young's An Anthology". In 1961 he made his first wooden box sculptures. De Maria and Robert Whitman opened the "9 Great Jones Street gallery" in New York in 1963. The same year De Maria's first solo show of sculpture was presented there. De Maria emerged as a leader of the Earthworks movement in 1968 when he filled the Galerie Heiner Friedrich in Munich with dirt.

Robert Smithson was born in Jan 2, 1938 in Passaic, New Jersey and died July 20,1973 in a plane crash. His style of art was Land art. The art works he is mostly known for is "Spiral Jetty" in 1970, "Asphalt Rundown" in 1969, "Broken Circle" in 1971 and "Partially Buried Woodshed" in 1970. He is also one of the founders of Land art or Earthwork.

In the 1970s music had a big hit with the death of inspirations like Elvis Presley and the Doors vocalist Jim Morrison . The break up of the bands like Simon and Gafunkel, the Beatles and the Doors. But this decade also had a lot of good bands formed in the 1970s like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and John Lennon.

I thought the art and the music of the 1970's was very interesting. I liked the art because they used the ground surfaces and made art with it. The art piece that I mostly liked was the "Broken Circle" and   "Spiral Jetty". I liked them because they were very interesting how they were made. The music artist that I liked the most was the band The Doors and Pink Floyd.
