Fire Starter is a novel written by Steven King. The locations in Fire starter are as diverse as the individuals who are in the book. The characters in fire starter have special powers that grant them special abilities they must us to save their life. The diction gives the novel the time setting of the story. There are and multiple themes in Fire Starter; all have their symbolic ideas. The setting of the book takes place in multiple areas. The first notable area in the novel is an air port in Albany New York where the author describes the airport and phone booths that Charlie had to get money from." There were about fifteen phone booths in all, with circular sliding doors. When you were inside the booth, it was like being inside a great contact capsule with a phone inside it". The next notable place in the novel is a lakeside house where Andy and Charlie hide out. Then came the shop agency that they were held prisoner in for a few years. The characters that the novel Fire Starter all contribute to the ambiance that the story tells. Charlie the pint size pyromaniac who has the ability to lite fires with her mind, who will do what ever her father says to keep her abilities a secrete as long as possible. Andy is Charlie's father who has the ability to persuade people beyond their control, he calls his power "The Push", but after he suffers from brain throbbing pain with which he cant think. Vicky is Charlie's mother and Andy's late wife, She had the power of telekinesis she can move small objects using her mind. These powers gained by Andy and Vicky was obtained by the Shop agency when they pumped them full of a substance known as Lot Six. The diction in the book helps to tell the time of when the book was published. Certain words reveal that the book is at least ten years old. The word refreshed is used in modern literature, but is replaced with the word fresh. The rest of the diction is rather simple, but intriguing enough to compel the reader to continue reading. Simple phrases have the biggest impact on the story. "Having a few random thoughts about him, a feeling that he was trying to trick the girl he was talking to. "And then, when I was coming back to you, I saw him... and before I could stop ... it happened. It just got away. I could have hurt him, Daddy. I could have hurt him bad. I set him on fire!" ", All the simple phrases give the story its life and make it a great read. The theme of the book Fire starter is independence gained through life skills. Charlie starts as a child and grows older. She obeys her fathers rules and commands so they can escape and live together but that fails and Charlie is forced to use her powers to gain her freedom from the secret organization known as The Shop after her father dies and now has submitted her story to Rolling Stones Magazine to force The Shop to stop hunting her. All the elements of a good book are placed in this novel. Action, suspense, and fire are in this book. Small details give the book its life and also tell of the time that it came from.
